Rides of the SchafbergBahn
From Thursday to Sunday, the Advent Train trundles off on its way up the snowy Schafberg. Gliding between wintry mountain forests, the ride takes you to the Schafbergalm at 1364 m above sea level.
The steepest cog railway in Austria was built in 1893. From May until October, it climbs 1190 m in elevation and a distance of 5.83 km until it finally reaches the top of the 1783 m-tall Schafberg.
In July and August, the vintage steam locomotives – some of the oldest in the world (built 1893,1894) – are put back into operation. Four modern steam locomotives, a diesel locomotive and two diesel-electric locomotives operate all season long.
Fare for the Advent Train 2020: € 33.80 per person for the ride up and down to Schafbergalm.
Tickets can be bought right there at the SchafbergBahn valley terminal. For groups of 20 or more, reservations are required at Tel. +43 (0)6138 / 2232-0 or by email berg.schiff@schafbergbahn.at.
